Stop Dog Barking, and Dog Behavior Training

Dog Owners complain that they want their dogs to stop barking, period: after all a good dog is a quiet dog, and they should just stop dog barking. Of course barking is permitted is when there’s a man breaking into your home, threatening you or your family, or when things go bump in the night.

Dogs don’t see barking in the same way. Your dog has a voice, just like you they learn to use it to, in order to communicate something to the people she cares about.  With effective Dog Behavior Training you can ensure they learn to use their voice in the right way.

Unfortunately most dog owners do not stop to realize the impacts of poor dog training, or that many people may see a barking dog, and suspect that the dog is showing aggressive dog behavior, when in fact the dog is just trying to “talk” to you.

So how do you stop dog barking in cases where the barking is inappropriate, but allow dog barking when appropriate?  First you need to understand the basic reasons for dog barking.

  • She’s bored
  • She’s lonely
  • She’s hungry, or knows it’s time for a meal
  • Something is wrong/someone is near the house
  • She’s inviting you to play
  • She sees another animal
  • She needs the toilet

If your dog is barking for any of these reasons, then your dog is doing what comes naturally.  It is not very realistic that you will be able the dog from barking.

An Excellent resource is Daniel Stevens’s program.  It allows you to train your dog in the privacy of your own home without spending a fortune.  For anyone serious about having a well behaved dog, this is an excellent Dog Behavior Training Resource.
